The Challenge

Freemarket FX’s original platform was built to support low-value, high-volume payments. As the business evolved, it shifted towards high-value, low-volume B2B transactions, which placed entirely new demands on onboarding, compliance, delivery assurance and banking connectivity. Onboarding journeys were fragmented and heavily manual, requiring customers to re-enter the same data multiple times. Form logic was inconsistent across touchpoints, data persistence was unreliable, and internal teams lacked meaningful MI to track onboarding performance or customer progression. At the same time, Freemarket’s path to production was slow and unpredictable. Automation was limited, deployments were high-risk, and teams lacked the documentation and operational discipline needed to deliver changes safely. Finally, Freemarket’s core banking integrations were tightly coupled to a legacy monolith optimised for B2C throughput, not high-value B2B reliability. Performance constraints emerged as the business onboarded larger clients, and integrating new banking partners became increasingly time-consuming. G&F were engaged to redesign user journeys, uplift delivery maturity and modernise banking architecture to support Freemarket’s shift into high-value international money movement.

Redesigning UX & onboarding journeys

Freemarket’s onboarding required significant modernisation to support more complex, high-value B2B clients. Customers encountered duplicated form fields, inconsistent business logic and manual re-keying across internal systems. Admin tools offered limited visibility, creating heavy operational overhead.
